The Urban Accountant Inc is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to support our tax preparation services for individuals and small business clients. This role is critical to maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance, and providing timely information to support tax filings and advisory services. The ideal candidate will bring strong bookkeeping expertise, attention to detail, and a client-focused mindset to help the accounting team deliver high-quality financial services. You will collaborate with accountants, organize client records, and contribute to efficient workflow processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update financial records for individuals and small business clients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure records are audit-ready for CRA compliance
  • Organize and manage client documentation to support the accounting team in completing timely and compliant tax submissions.
  • Support the accounting team with GST/HST filings, payroll data, and other compliance-related tasks.
  • Collaborate with accountants and internal teams to streamline workflows and maintain accurate client records.
  • Conduct basic financial research and data entry as required to support tax preparation and reporting.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial information and ensure proper safekeeping of company and client records.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Being attentive and detail-oriented to ensure accurate calculations and to avoid errors 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills for solving mathematical problems
  • Good customer service skills 
  • Proficiency in related software including Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Excellent decision-making skills and sound judgment capabilities
  • 3–5 years of progressive tax accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public practice setting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian income tax credits is considered an asset
  • Self-motivated, organized, and collaborative — capable of working independently while supporting the team’s goals.
  • Bilingual abilities are an asset.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid On-site/Remote position in Mississauga, Ontario.
  • Standard business hours with occasional extended hours during peak tax season.
  • Collaborative and fast-paced office setting.

Compensation: $28–$38 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
